About Us
Hi, I'm Jen — maker, mom, and the heart behind The Lucky Toadstool.
It all started with a bow. On a visit to a local gift shop in Salt Lake City, I spotted the most beautiful handcrafted bow hanging on a front door display and I knew I had to have more of them in my life — not just to own, but to create. I wanted to make my own colors, my own styles, something that was entirely mine.
The truth is, I didn't know how to sew. But I knew how to be inspired.
My mom spent decades creating by hand, not because she planned to build a business, but because creativity found her when she needed it most. After a season of grief, she sat down and started making — and what grew out of that quiet, determined act was Wimpole Street Creations, born in the basement across the hall from my childhood bedroom. For over twenty years she was the #1 lace importer in the United States, authored hundreds of craft patterns carried in Michaels, Jo-Ann, and Hobby Lobby, and proved — stitch by stitch — that handmade things carry something no factory ever could. She chose to sew to craft, always. Not one quilt. Just pure, joyful creation for the everyday person.
I watched her turn sorrow into something beautiful and I never forgot it.
In 2020, I lost both of my parents. I had already said goodbye to two brothers years before. I navigated a divorce and a remarriage. And then, somewhere between my oldest daughter leaving for college across the country and my youngest finally starting full-day school, I found myself standing in front of one of my mom's sewing machines — at 46 years old — thinking: why not now?
My oldest daughter sewed my very first bow exactly the way I pictured it, then promptly left for Europe, leaving me alone with the machine and a head full of ideas. Growing up around my mom's craft business, I had played on those machines enough to figure it out. And so I did.
What started as one bow has grown into nearly 1,000 orders and a community of customers who come back season after season. Launching this website is a dream I've been working toward — a space that's entirely mine, just like those first bows were.
Every piece from The Lucky Toadstool is handmade to order — bows, table cloths, and more with each season. And if you look closely at the shop, you'll also find something truly special: my mom's legacy lives on in the table runners and toppers she originally designed. Timeless elegance that stands the test of time is hard to find — and harder to let go of. Carrying her patterns forward is my small way of keeping her with me.
When you bring something from The Lucky Toadstool into your home, you're carrying a little piece of a legacy that started in a basement in Utah, built by a woman who proved that creativity can heal, purpose can be found at any age, and that the most beautiful things in life are made by hand.
Thank you for being here. It means more than you know.
